No real difference between going through confused or going direct if the price is the same - only thing is if you go though confused they will get some form of kickback which may mean that next time you renew they are still in business which means you don't have to do the legwork yourself0

I do not know if there is still a huge rating between different kinds of employment, but I do know that there used to be a huge whack added if you worked in the entertainment industry. So I knew someone who always said he was an electrician, which he was, because if he said he worked in a theatre (actors etc rather than doctors), the premium was always OTT.
Yesterday I insured DS on our car and on being asked his occupation I said he was either a student or worked in a cinema, whichever was cheaper! Call handler agreed to do this but I don't know whether there was any difference.
Of course you must not lie, but I suspect there are still some occupations for which there will always be a loaded rating. Sales rep, maybe?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

i emailed norwich union asking why unemployed are quoted higher than employed even with lower mileage. their reply was
''The reason for you the premium being higher, is that from a
Business point of view Unemployed people are a higher risk, as the premiums
for the Insurance may not be paid, ...''
right but what if the premium is paid annually?
just some excuse to get extra dosh in?
trouble is if i find a job later on they might charge to change cover and if the premium is lower what r the chances of refund when they are going to charge admin charges etcProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Why not put self-employed or Professional as your occupation - I had the same thing when I came to renew, it was £100 difference between being self-employed and unemployed.0 -

as it is i have a limited company and work for other people. due to personal circumstances i quit working to look after the kids. i still have my own company running but signed P45 in order to claim benefits as advised by DWP. Am looking for work locally may it b full or part time. I am still the director of my company. In the past i always put myself down as employed because i was on PAYE from my compay.
I could therefore revisit the insurance quotes and play with it. Try self-employed or unpaid directorProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Unfortunately, underwriting isn't based on common sense - ie, unemployed drivers are out at quiet times of the day, and can't afford long drives etc. It's based on how much the computer says was paid out in previous years due to claims involving drivers in the various categories unemployed/office job/night club owner/prof footballer, etc!*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
