Hi, newbie here, first wanted to say how brilliant this site is!
I am looking to buy a gas fire and surround (including back panel and hearth).
Local specialist shops are quite expensive so am thinking of making an online purchase. I have found some websites:
fires-cookers.co.uk for the gas fire (flavel raglan balanced flue)
directfieplaces.com and acorn excell fireplaces for the surround (marble/limestone type)
Has anyone purchased from these websites, what's the quality and after sales service/delievery like?
The fieplace megastore seemed resonable but the after sales reviews weren't brilliant.
Are there any other websites that anyone would recommend?
Any input appreciated.
Jess

Hi Jess
My sister's friend bought a lovely fireplace and gas fire from ebay.
It was a firm in the lake district, waiting her reply for the name.
They delivered it the day and time arrange, unpacked it for her to check
and took all the packaging away. She paid about £500 in total.
not much help until i can supply you with name but maybe other DFW

Hi, I have just used http://fireplacemegastore.co.uk/index.asp , in fact my fireplace is being fitted on Friday along with a flavel inset gas fire (shop4fires).
They have a big selection of stone/marble fireplaces - there customer service seems to be excellent.0 -
I have recently purchased a new fireplace and surround from my local fireplace shop (near Leicester.) I am having a marble fireplace, black granite hearth with a new chrome looking gas fire. I am paying £1000.
Price includes Corgi registered person to dismantle old fireplace and remove current gas fire, fitting of new fireplace and gas fire and finally if any items are broken or damaged during transit or whilst fitting they will pay for replacement. Whereas anything ordered of internet could get easily damaged by someone else fitting it and it is not cheap to replace.
I have looked on the Internet for the fire I am having and I am paying £131 more, but for my £131 I am getting Corgi registered person to remove and fit new fireplace plus damage cover.0 -
I got my fire from:
http://www.fires4u.co.uk/
When it arrived I refused to take delivery as it looked as though the courier company had been playing football with it !
I e-mailed fires4u and they immediately sent out a new one.
I would recommend these people for the fire.
You don't say where you are in the UK, I got my fireplace from:
http://www.fireplaceswoottonbassett.com
I prefer to see what I am buying first, plus I wanted a slightly smaller fireplace than the "standard" size, which these people had.
I got a local CORGI man to install the whole lot.0 -
I got my wall mounted electric fire from www.hotprice.co.uk
Although quoted 10 days for delivery it came after only 4 days. My local showroom quoted 3 weeks for delivery and hotprice were £150 cheaper!
Their sales staff were really helpful and it's the best fireplace site is the best i've seen.
Unfortunately, they don't offer buy-now pay-later anymore though
My sister has since bought a gas fire from them and she is just as pleased0 -
Thanks for all your replies everyone.
back2sqare1 you are getting a fantastic deal and what you're describing sounds just like what I want. Are you able to post the details of your local fireplace shop (address, telephone number) I live in Hertfordshire but would be willing to travel as my local shops are charging 3/4 times that.
Does the corgi person work directly for the shop?

I Ordered a fire from www.fireplacemegastore.co.uk and it was great, the service and product were amazing, there sounded to be a sales team full of people who answered all my questions, plus I found out loads about the thing i shouldn't of been doing (Yes I didn't have a chimney and was going to order a gas fire...they said its quite a frequent occurance!!) I did see a complaint from somone, but the way it was written, and the other thing she commented about make it seem she's not happy with life!!hehe
