E.ON EnergyOnline Extra Saver - A Change to Terms & Conditions

Switched from E.ON on 10-Feb. Received a letter from E.ON over the weekend notifying me of the price increase for both gas & elec effective 08-Feb. Not surprised by this. The letter also contained a significant change to the terms & conditions for this product - ie "No discounts will be applied to the final bill and you must pay the balance in full."

Cant seem to find this in the t & c's E.ON sent me last May when I applied for their supply. I had signed up on the basis that discounts would be applied to all the charges, as per the original agreement - ie "EnergyOnline Extra Saver discount – the discount we will apply to your energy charges on each statement we send you. The discounts you receive are set out in your plan." These discounts are a sizable 18% off the charges on my final bills. E.ON are refusing to add the discounts which amount to just over £100 in my case.

Anybody know the exact date this change was implemented - the letter is only dated 'February 2008'?. Looking at the t &c's on the website there is no effective date given here either. The following link may be of interest to existing EnergyOnline Extra Saver customers thinking of switching should E.ON decide to increase their prices on this plan in the next few weeks...

Yes, I warned about this in post #20 of thread "Time to switch again, e-on?" but it didn't get much of a reaction.

I made a slight mistake in that post. This condition was not present in the version 2 of EnergyOnline saver and was present in version 5 - I don't know which intermediate version (3 or 4 or not until 5) it first appeared in.

It means the customer will have to be careful when eventually switching away to time it to be just after a quarterly bill.

The change was brought in at the same time as the latest price increase (i.e. 8th Feb) and affects all tariffs not just EnergyOnline Extra Saver.A copy of the new T&C' s was sent out with the price increase letters.
  • Hi

 I've just had a letter from E-on and, having read the above, read it carefully. My letter clearly states that "as an Energyonline Extra Saver customer you'll continue to receive your Extra Saver online discount". Strange:confused:

Could you get round this by requesting a bill a week before your account closes?
The you'd only lose the discount for a week? Or would they spot this and not bill you?

You will if you continue with the supply from E.ON. However should you end your supply with them whatever reason - or a new supplier does so on your behalf when switching - then the new condition added in Section 4 of the t&c's will apply.

Swap away immediately after receiving and paying a quartlery bill. Jobs a good'un. Max 4wks of no discount I guess?

Perhaps a minimum of 4 weeks. Yes that would be the best way - and preferably outside the winter season...
