E.on increase in monthly payments
I just called E.on to let them know my correct meter reading from the estimate and to request that they increase my monthly DD to £40 to cover the bill that is far too high. This would then cover and pay all overdues by the time the next bill comes in bearing in mind that we are now (supposedly) moving over to the warmer and brighter months
I then was told that as I had pointed out I needed to increase my DD to £40 they would actually be increasing it to £93/ month to cover the outstanding bill and make an assumption that I am using that amount each month.
I cannot afford this! I told her that I couldnt afford this and I couldnt see the reasoning for it. She said it wasnt her fault it was the sytem and that was how much i would now have to pay - my current balance is just under £200 as they didnt previously increase when I asked them last bill. I feel sick. I cannot afford this. she then started on about having a prepay meter - errr no, thats even more expensive and paying in advance (which according to her calculations that is what should happen with our DD payments) and I live in a rented property but I am NOT interested in prepayment meter anyway
I now feel trapped and sick. I am not joking when I say I am now going to find it difficult to get to work and feed myself and my son.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Can I call them back and insist on the DD being increased but to maximum of say £60?
Thanks, nana

Gas? Electricity? Both?
Is that £200 debit calculated using the correct meter reading you just gave them?
You don't say how much you were paying by DD or how long it took you to build up your £200 debit balance.
As a rough rule of thumb they normally allow you the same length of time to clear your debt as it took to build it up.
I can't understand your statement that by increasing your DD to £40 it will clear your '"overdues' by the time the next bill comes in"
At £40 a month, it will take 5 months to pay off your debt even if you didn't use any energy over that period.
More detail please.0 -
Thanks for replying.
Sorry I didnt make it clear. Its Electric only.
The total bill including the new reading is £200. They have taken a payment since the bill was dated. I have been living in the house for about 8 months. When I moved in they set the DD at £28, I said that would not be enough and for it to be about £40 minimum to start with. They said no it would be ok. I then called them again with the last meter reading 3 months ago and again said that it needed to be increased but they said no it would sort itself out over the summer. Today I called with the new meter reading and asked for it to be increased. If they had increased it when I first requested it there would not have been the problem at all. I suggested that it be increased to a maximum of £65/ month bearing in mind that the warmer & brighter weather is approaching, but was told no it was to be £93 or £113!!
If I pay the £93/ month now my account will then be well in credit as we move towards the summer, this built up balance will be paid off can I then insist that they decrease the amount being paid to something more reasonable?0 -
If you have been paying £28 a month and you have built up a £200 debit balance in the 8 months you have been there, You have been using electricity at the rate of £53 a month. That would have covered several summer months.
Bear in mind that prices have all gone up recently so you are probably using around £60 a month.
So paying back at £65 monthly will not pay back your debt in the 8 months and £93 does not seem unreasonable.
Obviously when your debt is paid off, you should revert to a lower figure. By then you will have had over a year in your property and you and E-On will have a better picture of your annual consumption.

Have you used the ONLINE email system within your Eon account to contact Customer Services ???
Give it a go ............. several times and you should get a reply, plus it's better to put thing in writing?
Or you could try going straight to the TOP .........?
Give Hannah Matthews (Directors' Office) a call on 0800 056 3747, extension number 2910 ................... [It's a FREE PHONE NUMBER].
You'll have to bring her up to speed on your problem, but what ever you do, do not rant like a demented chicken and get all tongue-tied ........... work out all your facts before hand, have any paperwork to hand and speak to her like a human being!!!!
Speak like a "spawn of the devil" and you'll get nowhere or even cut-off ............ so be warned and good luck.
But don't say where U got the number???
One thing to remember, if your account is arrears, the ONLY way they will lower your DD is if you settle your outstanding bill NOW ............... then they will work you next DD Payment out on your past USAGE ......................... so to get your £40.00 DD payment, you will have to have not used more than £480.00's worth of fuel in the past twelve months?
Hope this helps,
Scooby:cool:0 -
I have written to them and asked for a new amended bill, with the correct reading - I am going to pay the arrears off and then ask to have a DD of £60 put on the system as I cant afford the £93 that they have quoted
They also have put me on a different "capped rate" billing but that seems to be only applicable to dual fuel customers or those on ecomony 7, neither of which applies to me. The price is higher, so I have asked them to change back to the correct pricing scheme for my meter and useage
Will they defo change the DD amount once the arrears is paid?0 -
Either try to adjust the DD payment via your online account (?) ............. under the PAY YOUR BILL section (I think ... from memory?)
Or just give them a call and ask them to lower it ............ though bear in mind they will only lower it to a point where their system works your current usage to be.:cool:0
