Please don't call me stupid 
I keep coming accross unmounted film cells on ebay. What I want to know is what they really are? what can i do with them? and if it says 40 what do I get?? Are they a good buy?

They are not what I would call a "Film Cells" per se! AFAIK (and I can remember seeing original ones) they are simply cut up bits of film.
Proper film cells pertained to cartoons and were the original hand drawn acetates that were used to make them, they were also rather large! I suspect that someone is getting hold of cinema film returns and having their evil way with a Stanley knife.
I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!

In my opinion they're about as collectable as those awful "genuine" preprint autographs that some ebayers are flogging..quite successfully too!0

Cheers to all you guys!! I did suspect they would be small bits of film but wasn't quite sure!!
I wanted to get a few Heffalump pictures for my sons nursery (When he arrives!! - 3 months to go :eek: ) I did email the bloke and he wasn't clear!!. if anyone knows where I can get some decent heffalump stickarounds or pics at reasonable prices please pm me!?

Yes I would have said so. In my local shopping centre they offering strips like that mounted and with a picture of the lead in the film from £25 +

I contacted a seller once who was offering these for a film that wasn't even released and asked how he could possibly have cels from an unreleased film (think it was The Incredibles).
As honest as they come, he replied and said that the ones he was selling were the ones from The Incredibles trailer(!) although there was no mention of them being trailer ones in the listing.0
