Just had the new council tax bill (ouch!). It is always for payment to be paid over a ten month period but i am sure i read somewhere that you can pay it over 12 months so its not so painful! Of course i could be imagining that so wondered if any of you lovely moneysavers know if thats right or not? Thanks!

            Hi dobs
you're not imagining things! It is poss to spread payments over 12 months instead of 10 (I've been doing that for a few years now). Where I live, payment has to be by monthly direct debit to be allowed to pay over 12 months.
The exact arrangements differ from council to council so best bet would be to give yours a call and see if they offer this 12 month option. Make a note of who you talk to/when etc. just in case you need to chase it up later!
 All the best0

If your Council don't offer it .... you won't get it. It's not an 'entitlement' .... like the 10 months.
I've organised my Mum's (Sheffield) over 12 instalments - but it's not an option where I live.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

Yes you can it depends on how flexible your council is. There's nothing to stop then its just many council have adopted this policy I assume its because it helps there finances better and budgeting0

The reason they do it is it gives 2 months for people to "catch up" if they get behind.0

Was earning some nice points until the council round here decided to charge a small percentage last year for using credit cards.Still can get some points though0

I prefer the old way of the rates. When they put the notices up on the corporation buses about the summons being issued, then we would pop down to the selwyns office and pay in one installment. And they did not charge extra.0

Well rang them up andasked if it was possible and the bloke umd and ahd abit then came back and said yes!So it means paying about £20 less each month if you see what i mean. Thanks v much it will be much easier this way as paying monthly bills a bit stressful at the moment so at least this one is spread out more.grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000

Glad it helps I did enquire about this some years ago as it can make a big difference 12 months instead of over 10 months if your on a tight budget. They dont like to announce this but will help if money is tight0

Our council tax is so high they only send us the bill with 12 monthly payments now  ...it used to be 10 so you had a little break. I think they started doing this to soften the blow:eek: !!
If you contact your council they cannot refuse to let you pay over 12 months(as the bill applies to a 12 month period) and you can pay at the council offices with cash if needed:D .JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200 FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £2000 FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £2000
