If you are going to close the card anyway, give Barclaycard a ring (08009177277 / ask for customer loyalty unit) and ask them if they have any offers at the moment that you might benefit from as you are thinking of closing your card. You might just get lucky.

May be worth asking them to reduce your credit limit. You may then get offered an existing customer balance transfer deal at some point, but it will reduce your 'available' credit showing on your credit report. That way you might find getting accepted elsewhere easier.

If you are a significant stoozer, with credit limits more than 50% of your annual salary you may find it tough to get more cards - the lenders have tightened up their lending criteria as a result of rising bad debts.

i have moved banks from Barclays as ive found out my money in my current account was actually losing money! interest on the account is a pathetic 0.1 % and with inflation running at about 2% it doesnt take a clever person to see my money is in fact decreasing in value leaving it in Barclays. Now my money is earning for me 3.3% not the best but i do like this bank, Smile internet bank.

I'm also deciding what to do about my 'empty' Barclaycard. It has a £4100 limit and is currently empty. However, I was going to keep it open in case I could get a decent BT offer neared Xmas when my Egg 0% runs out

Barclaycard do have a very good balance transfer rate for the life of balance providing you do not buy on it while you have an outstanding transfered balance. They also do a product guarantee for purchases over £100.

I had a clear account and called them, I came out of it with the payment protection removed and an increase of £1200 to £4700
