Why not buy yourself an old banger for £200, then get 3rd party insurance? It'll be fine for a year, and if it dies, just scrap it and get another one! You'll save alot of money in insurance costs, and it might just last you the entire year!

Or get a bus pass! (Yearly ones are much cheaper than daily ones!)

If you don't earn a decent income, no one will lend you £3000, as how on earth would you pay it back??
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

i live at home uni is a bout 20 miles away and still cost a quite a bit even with a bus pass.

Consider petrol costs (we're talkin about 40 miles a day, right?), insurance, road tax, MOTs & general upkeep, plus the cost of the car itself ... and I think you'll find the bus is cheaper.

Just out of curiosity, how much does the bus cost?

And are you in uni every day? Surely it'll be cheaper to move into a nearby flat with some friends for the next 3 years.

Or just put up with the long bus journey. I used to use long journeys to study! It saves time.

If your own bank turns you down, you're probably going to struggle elsewhere. Take it there's nobody you know would be willing to loan the cash?

Also, just out of interest, how much longer does it take you to use the bus rather than driving?
  • 30 mins extra not in uni everyday

30 mins extra is nothing (and I'm assuming you mean that is in both directions?)!

TBH I would get the bus because it will be good experience before you go to work, many people travel a great deal further, and you'll need to get into that routine sooner or later! x

If I come on the bus to work it is an extra 2 hours on my journey time for the day, 10 hours a week. I pay probably 3x what I would on the bus to drive into Manchester every day, but I personally feel it is worth every single penny. I'd be getting back home at 7pm usually when finishing at 5. Where as now I can get in early and finish at 4 and I'm back home for 5 O'clock.

So I understand why you would want a car, but I don't understand why you would need such a good car that would cost £3,000?

For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!

There is a big difference between 30 mins travelling time and two hours, and I imagine that a student would do a much shorter day than you anyway! ;)

    £3K is a lot for a car when you've got no income ... x

Err...I hate to disagree, but that's a routine I'd never get into. A great number of people chose to travel great distances, sure, but that doesn't mean you need to. I don't think I'd ever consider travelling more than an hour to work - I'd sooner move.

And as for the bus...I recently interviewed for 7 jobs. 4 of these I just wouldn't be able to get to on public transport (well, not remotely sensibly, at least). 2 were quite close to each other - An hour and a half on the bus - 10-15 minute drive. The other one would an hour on the bus - vs 25 mins in the car. All of these journeys would be 50-100% more expensive using public transport than driving. (although, to be fair, it would be closer if I had monthly passes).

I consider my time to be quite valuable..and I'm not going to waste it sitting about on a bus when I could be either at work or at home doing something productive, or at least something I want to be doing...

The point I'm trying to make is that the bus isn't for everyone and if the OP finds it easier to drive, I don't see why he wouldn't...

Because hes wanting a £3k personal loan to buy a car without an income....

I think in his case, a bus, would be more suitable.

Yes in your case, an interview - i assume - for a job, where someone will be earning and therefore could afford it.

But the OP's demonstrated above that they can afford both the running costs of a car and to make repayments on a loan at the same time...So it's not a case that he can't afford it...
