Hi to all fellow MSEr's,
I am sorry if it's a daft question. Our bath was one of those plastic ones and has cracked and and it leaked and we have already replaced it. Secondly, our roof was leaking that has caused damped on our top floor bedroom. We also have sorted it out and have it repaired by a roofing specialist. Hence my question: Can I claim from my home insurance? I would appreciate any replies.
cheers

You cannot claim for wear and tear so if your bath and roof failed just due to age or normal wear and tear then you cannot claim.
You sometimes gets strom damage to roofs but the weather forecast would be checked for the day/night in question.
You should normally discuss reapirs with your insurer because they may want to send an assesor round.
You can sometimes put in a claim for consequtial damage if you have accidental damage cover.
e.g. if the roof was wear & tear then you can't claim for the roof but you might be able to claim for the water damage as that was an accident.
It is often not worth making a small claim because the excess and the increased premiums will exceed the costs of the damage.
Hence if this is just a case of a lick of paint then I would do it yourself.
In future I would advise not going ahead with repairs without talking to the insurer first (except for temporary emergency repairs).0
