were gonna get our loft converted hense needing to get rid of water tank and imersion heater from loft. we have a small boiler situ in the under stairs cupboard which we would like replaced and resituated in the kitchen.
anyway we have been quoted £1400.00 for installing new boiler, removal of old, disconnecting of immersion and water tank and install thermosats onto exisiting rads and leaving hot/cold inlets both in loft and understair cupboard so that we can add ensuite and cloak.
does anyone in the know think this is a fair price.

Hi bindiboo,
This thread would probably be better on the Is this Fair board, so I hope that you don't mind if I move it over there.

More than fair i would say.
In bucks you could double that price _pale_0 -
Yes that seems fair to me - earlier this year we had a combi boiler replaced and a few other bits and pieces of plumbing doing, and it was about £1000, but the condensing boilers are more expensive and we didn't have to get ours moved.0

Check what boiler is being installed. You get what you pay for with boilers and often if you don't specify then you'll be supplied one that one has a one year warranty with an aluminium heat exchanger. By the time the boiler fails in 3 or 4 years there will probably be no spares for it! The best make is Vaillant. worcester bosch or potterton are other good makes. You may find that your quote will increase by about £200 or £300.0

A Good condensing boiler would be upwards of £800.00 trade and hanging it would be £200.00 - £300.00.
what with all of the other work to be done, I would say that this was very reasonable. (As long as he is fully Qualified!)

Not bad - I'm just having a 24yr old Potterton boiler and gravity system replaced (having major bathroom works very soon) with a Worcester 24i plus Santon 210CL (and all associated gubbins) as well as 4 x TRVs for £3590 + VAT in Marlow, Bucks - that was the lowest quote - others were around £4k +

This actually sounds almost too cheap to me. How detailed is your quote, i.e. what boiler have you been quoted for, is the system going to be chemically flushed and treated in accordance with manufacturers instructions and will there be a timer control and room thermostat fitted to control the central heating, and is the installation going to be registered with (including the electrics) building control via CORGI? Your quote really should detail these things, otherwise you are leaving it to chance and may face problems later as a result.
I have to be honest and say that I would find it difficult to match that price if fitting a condensing combi. Including the removing of the old stuff, moving the boiler, making good, completing the pipe work (neatly) including bringing a 22mm gas supply to the new position, flushing it correctly and treating it, balancing the heating, fitting the TRVs, electrics, new room stat and timer, the very best price I could do that for would be more like £1600, assuming it was pretty straightforward, and that allows for three days (1 day draining and removing old, making good, and siting new boiler, 1 day completing new installation, 1 day commissioning, flushing and balancing) labour plus £100 for electrical work.
I would consider getting a couple of other quotes just to see if there is a consistent difference and if the other people metion anything this person hasn't. It goes without saying that you should check their CORGI registration is valid also.
