Hi,
I'm just about to list a few small items that I doubt will sell for much and was just wondering whether it's worth offering recorded delivery. Also I see you can offer multiple delivery methods so which would show up on your listing? I've only ever taken paypal before and was wondering what other payments you'd recommend also.
Sorry if these are stupid questions but I've only sold a few things and can't see the answers anywhere.
Thanks

Hi if you get a certificTE OF POSTING FROM THE POST OFFICE ITEMS ARE INSURED FOR UP TO £34. OOPS - that blasted caps lock. I don't usually use recorded for items that sell for £25 and below.
Save me from spending...

What about other payment methods?
Any advice there?
I'm only expecting the items to sell for under £5 if that makes a difference.0 -
On all my auctions I offer paypal, bank transfers, postal orders and cheques. I rarely, if ever get paid by anything other than paypal.
I also do as Little Chicken suggests and use standard 1st or second class mail for all my goods up to £34 and just keep a certificate of posting. That means my postage looks competitive and I generate more sales than I would if I loaded another 70p on top for recorded.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. if an item is NOT sent by Recorded Delivery, it might tempt any dishonest buyers to claim non receipt of delivery and ask you for a refund. ok, you can claim this back with jist a C of P (upto £34) but it is a bit of a ball ache and one that i would rather do without and add 70p onto postage costs. if u'r not overcharging on postage, 70p wont be too unreasonable.
you might find that if u offered the service in the delivery options, buyers might be willing to pay the extra 70p for RD.
only speaking from experience!

If its an expensive item, I usually give my buyers a range of options regarding postage, recorded delivery, special delivery, standard delivery (for which I obtain a C.O.P) but sometimes just to reassure myself I will send it recorded delivery as you can't be too trusting!!

I concur with above, if the item is lowish value, I send by standard mail and take my own risk. From 5000 odd items sent, I've lost no more than 10-12.
If the item is over £34, or if it is a "high risk" item such as a mobile phone, then it goes special delivery, and that is the only postal option I offer, as it is for my protection, not the buyer. If the buyer doesn't like the rate, then they don't have to bid. Invariably they will bid, then whinge afterwards that the postage is too high...<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
