Unpaid Item and 2nd Chance Offer

Hi,

I've sold an item tonight on Ebay and the buyer has just emailed me to say that he had entered the wrong amount when bidding and doesnt want the item at the price that he won it at.

The buyer was from Italy so to avoid any major hassle I have gone through Ebays Unpaid Item dispute section and have declared that we have mutually agreed not to complete the transaction. Now my question is this... The buyer hasn't responded to the dispute yet so am I able to offer the item to the next highest bidder now or do I need to wait until he's responded.

    No problem in issuing a second chance offer. For future reference be careful when filing mutuals, if the buyer doesn't agree (even in error) you don't get your final alue fees refunded. You are usually better off waiting the 7 days and filing a buyer has not paid for item disputes.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the information. Will definately keep that in mind in future. They were new to Ebay so I was trying to be as helpful as possible. Will send them a friendly email in a couple of days if they dont respond.

    I think a mutual closes in the sellers favour if the buyer does not respond in due course..you might want to look at ebay's help pages.

    However I'm with RFW on this one..if the buyer can't bid properly do you honestly trust him to tick the right box and allow you to reclaim your fees? One of the options he is given by ebay is that he would still like the item..if he ticks that you lose your FVfs and any relist credit. Also more importantly the buyer regardless of what he does now does not get an unpaid strike menaing he can just keep going on and doing this. Also from May (I think it's May) buyer would be able to leave you a neg and you would not be able to leave anything other than a positive.

    Never ever use a mutual.

    That would be the correct use of a mutual as you have already got a dialogue with the buyer. Even then of course if the buyer chooses to they can deny you the opportunity to get your fees back. Mutuals though ar enot to be used when the decision to withdraw is not mutual.

    Thanks for the advice - I just assumed that I had to use a mutual, I should learn to read things more carefully in future. The good news is that if the buyer doesn't respond, I'll still get my FVF credit and the buyer goes away without an unpaid item strike.

    Keep an eye on the dispute console and as soon as you can close the dispute and get your FVFs back do so.
