How can I change Focus for Corolla - cheaply?

Hi all,
Bit of a dilemma - I have a Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec X-reg (worth about £2500-£3000 I reckon) that I want to change for a Toyota Corolla 1.4 or 1.6 liftback (worth about £2500)
However, money is tight at the moment and I dont want to be waiting about to sell my car and go for any period of time without a car.
If I was to spot the right Corolla at a garage - do garages do part exchanges for cars worth a similar or perhaps greater amount?? or could I just do a straight swap?
Although, surely no garage would want to do this, as they would make no money on the deal?
Anyone got any ideas?

If money is tight, why not keep the Focus? Rather than splash onto unknown teritory with a new car that could cost you a few quid...
Also, upto 3000 for an X reg Focus? Is it gold plated?0 -
I want to get shot of the Focus cos it is using too much petrol - I reckon I'm getting 28mpg which is rubbish- maybe your right its probably worth £2500 max (although Parkers reckoned £3020 but I wouldnt pay that for it!)0

Remember this - Parkers Guide is exactly that: A guide! It's not basded on real world figures.0

In my experience very few garages will do a simple like for like swap. There has to either be cash involved for them or they'll mark down your part ex to create the cash.
I remember a few years ago a relative having a Merc that booked at £12k in part ex (Glass and CAP) and the relative wanting to buy a Jazz 1.4 auto. None of the garages would do a straight swap and most of them valued the Merc at £10k.
In the end we sold the Merc privately and bought the Jazz from Drive The Deal. The man without a signature.0 -
Fuel efficiency would be poor with lack of servicing.0

I part-exd my ford focus 1.6 zetec ghia (v reg) for a 52 renault megane new shape - they allowed me £2300 for my car and I paid £700 to get the new one. Thought that might help you for your figures. (this was today).0

What they allowed you isn't important. What is important is the price to change.
The fact that you traded in a Focus and changed to a Megane that was 2.5 years younger for only £700 ought to tell you something.
OP, your Focus is worth £2K at best. Might get more privately but if you do then rip their hand off.0 -
I changed my V reg Focus Tdi Ghia for a 54 Corolla d4d T-Spirit and I wish I still had my Focus!
Does that help?0
