travel insurance senior citizen

hi,
we travel to the usa annually.
as we are both in our 70's we are finding it increasingly difficult to obtain medical cover for our trip. This problem is compounded by the fact that the duration of stay is for 3 months not the 2 weeks that most seem to want to quote for.
we have cover from amex through a platinum card but the cover ceases next year for us.
Our question is where can we get a quote which will take our particular circumstances into account i.e. length of stay and age.
We only require medical cover for non pre existing conditions as we have cover in place for everything else we require
many thanks

    Read through this :-

.... but age / duration will make it difficult. Try some of the quote generators (bottom of article) .. but suspect you'll find it easier with an 'annual multi trip' and extending the period of an individual trip (some will) than trying the single trip / backpacker options?

(Waiting for my dinner! So juggled a few options and came up with one (via Moneysupermarket) that gives 91 days in 'annual multi trip' ... but it's a huge £238. Policy: AllClear2Go Annual Multi-Trip Plus (91 Days Per Trip)
.... must be a cheaper way via 'single trip' .. but the comparison sites opt out as soon as you put in age combined to duration. so regret I'll leave you to search. Best of luck.)

  • Try the Post office Travel insurance, my Mum uses them because others were too expensive http://http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=19300208&mediaId=19500183&keyname=ti_buysingle :D
  • PS they do up to 90 days on single trips

The PO link doesn't work - hopefully this one does :-

.... but whilst it says you have to ring them for over 75 .. in practice the way the search is set up you have to do it at over 65. And it comes in at a massive £644 for 90 days - even at the lower age.

I think this is one of those where the OP will need a firm that specialises in 70+ ... and then ring them. As it's slightly different being parked in the one place in the US for 90 days as opposed to 'travelling worldwide' for 90 days. which appears to be the selling assumption?

No direct experience, but I am sure my ex-neighbour and her partner (one 70 and one 80iss) used to do it through either Help the Aged OR Age Concern. If they didn't actually do it, they pointed them in the right direction.

    What about Saga?

try http://insurefortravel.co.uk/ they worked out cheapest for the in-laws the other day, and their "adult" is up to 75 - they don't charge extra till after this.
