Any other grads with a 2.2 having a hard time finding work? I'm finding it more and more difficult to get my foot in the door. A few months ago i would at least get the courtesy of a reply telling me "thanks, but no thanks" - but now i'm not even getting that!
Signs of a recession? Looking for work during a downturn is never easy, no one needs to tell you that, but maybe there just really aren't so many jobs about at the moment?
PS - this is not a whinge from a lazy graduate, i do currently have a good job, but it's not really a 'graduate' job or quite where i want to be.
I just wonder if anyone else is thinking there are less jobs out there in the current climate?

I got a 2.2 and I am now working for a multinational company with a pretty decent wage and I graduated last year.
They didn't even bother asking what I got for my degree, they were more interested to see if I suited the role...
Not bad for my first interview after I graduated!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"

Hey,
Please dont worry about having a 2:2. Although your degree is important, so is carisma, work ethic etc. To give you a real life example, my boyfriend got a 2:2, went for one million interviews I swear, kept at it and eventually landed a job which is a stepping stone to the job he really wants. He earns double my salary and those of all my friends who got 1sts.
Its you that counts! Keep looking, dont get put off.£6,838.71 all on 0% CC, what a change!0 -
Most employers are not really interested in your degree class. Leave it off your application, and you will be amazed at how few bother to ask.0

My C.V. reads BSc. Hons (SW) Microbiology. No mention of the 2.2. Most people usually start with "Microbiology thats an interesting choice" and completely forget to ask what grade or why I did it in 5 years not 3. The correct answer would be a foundation year for thick numpties as my A-level grades were useless followed by a sandwich (SW)year in industry.
Never been asked for my A-level grades which range from A through B,C,E,N and U. (E, N and U being fail grades). Most people are far more shocked that I sat 6 A-levels in the first place (no general studies). As for GCSEs I have 11. Since I passed English and Maths no one bothers any omre about this.
When interviewing in the past I insisted that the envelope and covering letter were kept with the application form. First impressions count. If you failed to spell the address correctly having copied it from an advert your CV hit the recycling pile. After that I went on handwriting, grammer and spelling. If the covering letter looked like it had been in your pocket for a few days and had coffee stains on it that also got recycled (no pride in yourself, no pride in your work). On average 25% of CVs were recycled before they even got as far as being read. Its a harsh world out there!Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
University matters almost as much as grade but 2.2 will not be so good nowadays with the huge no. of degrees from so called 'universities' diluting the pool0

My son has a 2.1 Maths and has been looking for a graduate job since July. He's been looking countrywide and has only had 1 interview.
BTW he is presently working in Macdonalds as a store manager - it may not be what he wants to do but at least he's doing something while waiting for the perfect job to appear!0 -
depens what subject you did.
I mean if you get a 2.2 in quantum physics then you'd have a better chance than getting a job with a 2.2 in media sudies or psychology etc.
the streets are awash with 2.2's0 -
you can say that again, glad i got a 2:1 in electronic enginering and a master degree, got a job after my 2nd interview... can i say wwoooop
.
What degree you doing OP?0 -
It depends on the subject. In something like psychology, a 2.2 would mean you can't even register as a psychologist, whereas in other subjects it doesn't matter so much. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
