  • I will put my picture of my front garden tonight when I get home. Its weird because its only small, but I remember seven years ago before I was divorced I had a 100ft garden at the back of my dorma bunglow! It had trees, pond, shed, greenhouse, owl, squirrels and the occasional fox. I loved planting new plants on the rockery and the side beds. Now my little garden I am turning to a cottage garden. It looks better in the summer!

  • Miro your house and your garden is wonderful. The front patch I would dig over - see what bulbs you can save and pot them. Get some Foxgloves, Large Poppies, Hollyhocks in white, kniphofia and also some tall alliums to stay through the autumn. Helleborus is also a nice low growing plant as it flowers in winter. I have a purple one. The back garden is fabulous - you could grow many roses and even try veg. Maybe at the other side of the lawn cut a small strip for bulb plants, winter, spring and summer.

Here is my front garden now and the full bloom one is the same front garden in summer last year.

Oooh Van1971...what a lovely tidy, ordered garden...I love the front path with the little lampy things! And the lamps at the back...I bet it looks fab at night! Are they solar??

shawtj2...never thought of digging up the bulbs and potting them....that is a fab idea! I love the thought of clearing the lot and having a fresh start!
  • Thanks Miro, it looks tidy because I had just cut the lawn. Yes, the tiffany style lights at the front are solar, I also have them at the back but you can't tell from the pics.
The round lights on the patio are not solar (you can see the light bulb :rotfl:) and yes, they look fab at night!

Hi miro yes if you pot them in good compost they might flower better. And then when you have completed the dig over and planned the front garden you may want to put them back in the year after.:T

I started off in november cutting the front garden back and due to ill health that's as much as have got done...but with the warmer weather coming I intend to get out and hoe the border's and cut and re-shape the lawn then and only then will I post a pic of it...the back garden needs some attention to and so does down the side of my drive although the pancies I potted up in november are doing very well ...well most of them...if only next doors cat would leave them alone...also I am trying to re-do my back garden so at the moment anything left in there is about to be dug up and potted...then get rid of all the grass...build some planter's for the corner's get a summer house for the bottom of the garden and build some decking with a plastic roof on top near the back door...not much to do then...lol...it may take a while...but I will have fun and enjoyment out of doing it...lovely gardens everyone...:)

    Plans for 2009
