Stupid question - fizzy drinks in hold luggage?

.....
I've taken large plastic 2 litre bottles of Irn Bru in my hold luggage on three or four occassions now.... In fact I've taken a 3 litre bottle (50% free) without any kind of problem whatsoever.
According to someone far smarter than I, Plastic (PET) fizzy juice bottles are designed to withstand pressures of up to 12 bar, but are pressurised to just 4 bar when filled. Given that putting it in a vaccuum will only increase the pressure differential from the inside to the outside by 1 bar (5 Bar Total), then that explains why there isn't a problem.
