soya mince can be used together with 'meat' mince - this helps bulk it out, and I don't think there is a taste difference. It's also cheap!!!!
grated carrot is really good for padding as well, like Rikki suggests and works in pasta sauces as well.
remember, you don't have to tell your boyfriend all the ingredients you have used.sometimes you are allowed to 'forget' to gauge his reaction....................:D

He can inspect it all he likes but he will not see the stuffing when its mixed in with the mince, try it out with spag bol or something, you will see how the stuffing just disappears.
