Old bank statements

Hi all
My sister had an account with the royal bank of scotland, the account is now closed but she needs bank statements from a certain time period when she had that account, she gave them a call and they said they can only give statements from the time it was opened up till it was closed and charge her £10 per statement.
Isnt there away to get this information withouth having ot pay £100's of pounds for statements?? I thought you would only have to pay a one off fee for this information and not £10 for each monthly statement?
Any info would be great.
Thanks

Why does she need them? If its to reclaim bank charges, there is a letter you can send asking for details of all the charges applied to the account for the last six years and banks are only allowed to charge you a maximum of £10 under the data protection act.
If it's for another reason then yes, most banks charge at least £5 per statement. The think that people should have kept the statements they were originally sent. You should be able to get them for a specied period though, rather than for the whole time the account was active.
