Thank you for your sensible reply. That's all I wanted to know. Like you say if people are entitled to benefits and have contributed then that's fair enough but if they are taking money they shouldn't be then they should be reported. I will try and find some more information out about it before I decide what to do. They guy seems to gloat telling people that he is living rent free.
Thanks again0 -
Surely they should pay CT though...
well at least the guy should - with the 20% discount eventually
I mean 'should' in the way it would be only fair, not it's how it actually works!0 -

It's a shame you have to pay CT when leaving with student...

That's probably all there is to it. He's exaggerated the truth in order to "impress" others.
Ignore him - or play the game and try to outdo him, just for a laugh
Remember the Monty Python sketch ..... "when we were kids, we had nowt to live in but a cardboard box ..... etc"
Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

You are a right idiot and you're getting on my t*its :mad:0 -
anyone can get council house/flat. some are just able to get a place quicker than the other
as someone mentioned before - some councils use point systems though many have replaced them with banding systems and people have to bid on properties and twiddle their fingers to see if they get the property. bands are usually catergorised as emergency, a, b , c. c being the unlikeliest to be given a place by the council emergency and a garunteed to be housed sooner.
your income has no bearing on council/social housing, income only effects benefits
when i lived with my mum and was a student many years ago. she was on incapacity due to kidney failure which should have been disability as she spent most of the week at the hospital
i earned about 400 pcm temping and had to pay part of the rent, and when i was a student i had to pay out of my student loan aswell
it all depends on different council and benefits criteria

if they are doing something wrong i doubt he would be gloating, unless they have found a loopholewould love to be a home owner. hate private rentingscared of debt. almost debt free.

Imani,
I think times have changed, we are due to be evicted as long term rent is being sold, not that there is anything around here to rent, but if there was we cannot afford the rent as my husband is low paid. We have a child with behaviour problems and who is on the Autistic Spectrum - for which he is deemed 'Medium Priority' (quite high apparently no-one gets this lever) and yet we don't have enough points to get housed. You are very wrong in your statement 'anyone can get a council house' as I can assure you this is very far from the truth. We will get one but it might mean going into a homeless hostel first as they do not want to know until the bailiffs are knocking on our door. This from the same council who have told my MP that being in a hostel would be damaging to my 4 year old because of his condition. Apparently there are no houses available to give us and we could be in a hostel for the next 9 months. Income has a great deal of bearing on whether you get housed, if we had too much money be that in savings or in wages we would not be able to have one as we would be capable of renting in he private sector.
However, once in you can win the lottery and would not have to move out!!0 -
no I am not jealous I would much rather work for and pay for what I've got.
I have been doing this for 25 years and have now concluded it's rubbish.
I want free stuff...free school, free house, free income. free teeth, free anti ageing treatment (if available).
If you want to rock their world...'phone the benefits fraud people (most of their leads come from informants), if not, a letter to the Daily Mail may make you feel better.
or you could just ignore it and keep quoting the above..."I prefer to work for what I have".........0
