To throw a spanner into the works regarding the excellent advice given by Browntoa. What if you aren't a customer of BT ? For instance my complete phone package (calls and line-rental) come from Talk-Talk. Do they and other telecoms companies have similar procedures in place regarding these types of calls ?

Also, calls from outside the UK may be impossible to block as BT or the provider do not get all the caller's details.
An answerphone that automatically answers anonymous calls might be your best bet.. ...as ariba suggested...

How about giving them the zincoxide treatment? sing down the phone to them, babble like a nutter, ask them to marry you, anything that will put them off their script.

Whats the law on companies from outside the uk trading here. Don't they have to have a "passport" from the fsa to trade? If they did,you would be covered by distance selling regs. The fsa site has some advice to help you about these type of scams.

Thanks everyone, but the problems remain:

They are Ex-d and on TPS, but as the calls are from outside the UK this doesn't stop them. Love to know where they got the number from?

The number is always withheld, so we can't block it or use caller I.D.

Thanks for the link to scam.com, I've checked that out already!

Mother in law just doesn't really have enough of her wits about her to deal with this, Father in law has told them to stop calling, but they will not stop.

The FSA can't help as they are a non UK company, they don't seem to have any control over this.

    Bloody nuisance!

You have answered your own question really.

You know they will not stop and you have tried every other avenue open to you. Change the phone number! A scam company will not stop whilst they have your parents details.

Could you divert your parents calls to yourself if that would help?

    Hi

I feel really sorry for you as my Dad got scammed like this quite a few years back. I still have the fake shares to prove it.

My Dad is not very good with money as my Mum was and she always dealt with the money side of things. After she died he fell for every scam going - (including the "leather" jackets mentioned on another thread recently) and sent £3500 to a swiss bank accont for his fake shares (don't:o). He kept answering the phone to them and just wouldn't believe he was being fleeced. Only when he couldn't sell the shares did he finally accept that he had been turned over by them - And STILL they kept phoning and STILL he kept talking to them:mad: Apparently, the "victim" keeps hoping they'll get their money back- eventually they asked him for more money after promising to give him his money back and the penny dropped. I'm not aware that you can stop them phoning if your parents keep answering. Frustrating.

Mind you he got fleeced my the Abbey (The shabby Abbey) too - so not all scammers sound like something of phonejacker.
