If you already receive milk tokens they get sent out automatically, if not then you do have to get the form signed.
I went back on IS just after the change over so i wont get any automatically, pain in the bum!

Thanks for this information astonsmummy. I wil lbe running up that health centre tomorrow.

As they say, "Every little Helps".

  • I heard something about this too. I think someone had mentioned it but someone else said it was a bad idea.

People who still get milk tokens can now use the tokens to get fruit snd vegetables instead of milk though.

Free milk, infant formula, vitamins, fruit and vegetables

You may be entitled to free milk, fresh fruit and vegetables, infant formula and vitamins under the Healthy Start scheme.

Who is eligible for Healthy Start?

You may qualify if you’re pregnant and/or have at least one child under four years old and your family gets any of the following:
    • Income Support
    • income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit unless your family is receiving Working Tax credit run-on only) with an annual family income of £16,040 or less (for 2009/2010)
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

    or
    • if you are pregnant and under 18 years old

Please note - Working Tax Credit run-on is the Working Tax Credit you receive in the four weeks immediately after you have stopped working for 16 hours or more per week

    What do you get?

You may be able to get vouchers worth £3.10 each that can be spent on milk, fresh fruit and vegetables or infant formula.
Pregnant women and children over one and under four years old get one voucher a week. Children under one year old get two vouchers a week.
You can also get free vitamin supplements. They're usually available from NHS clinics and health centres but your midwife or health visitor will be able to advise on local arrangements.

How to claim Healthy Start vouchers

You'll need to complete an application form and get your midwife, health visitor or registered doctor or nurse to sign it.
You can request a Healthy Start application form by calling 0845 607 6823, or you can download a copy or apply online on the Healthy Start website.

What else you need to know

For advice about staying healthy during pregnancy, you can contact NHS Direct (England and Wales) on 0845 4647 or NHS 24 (Scotland) on 08454 24 24 24.
