Status when applying for cards (might be a stupid question)

Hi there

I know this may seem a really stupid question (not unusual for me!!) but my boyfriend moved in with me in November and when he tried applying for a 0% credit card it got turned down. I know some of that is due to him recently changing address but there's also the question of his living status. The mortgage is in my name but I wouldn't class him as a tenant so what's the best thing to write down please? Any ideas would be gratefully received

Well when the credit card company looks at his credit file and they cant find the mortgage than they will look at this as false information being provided, so i would just mark it as private tennant furnished, if he was declined then i would urge him to appeal as long as has not got any adverse data on his credit files he should be fine, most card companies use automated computer descision making these days, speaking to an underwriter may sort this.

    Good Luck

I'm not advocating lying, but some providers don't report mortgage accounts to the CRA's. Some also only report to one of the CRA's, and not all three.

Best check credit file files first just incase to make sure that mortgage is or is not listed. Pre 1994 accounts may not show.

...but not necessarily at the same address. If OP's partner has 3-6 years verifiable history, then an appeal to an underwriter may result in an decision overturn.

I suspect, as Al Mac says, ER may be the issue, since the register was updated in December, following a gathering of information from August to October. Maybe there's something he can do with the rolling register?

I think it's pre-1998, being the year of the DPA re-vamp. Even some post-1998 mortgages (specifically FD/IF offsets, as reported on the stoozing site) are not reported to all CRA's.

    Thanks for that.

It makes sense about the Electoral Roll as I haven't had the most recent for yet so guess it'll be due in the next few months.
