council tax on business premises?

hi

we have recently moved into the flat above the pub/restaurant where my husband works and rang the council to check if council tax should be payable for the flat portion of the pub- we were told that yes it is payable and have been sent a bill.

i just want to double check if this is correct because the company are also paying business rates on the property.

thanks

The flat is separate to the business premises as it is residential therefore Council Tax is payable.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
