An ex owing me money
swoodhouse
Hi,
I want some advice. My ex owes me some money, we have made an agreement through email about how he would pay me. We agreed that he would pay money into my savings account and has the savings book. He has not paid any money into the account and i have again emailed him today and the email address has been disabled. Clearly ignoring me now.
I moved in with the guy in the beginning of may and moved out middle of October and am trying to claim back the expenses of living with him. I re-stocked his house up after his wife had left him, (we were not together at this time) and the decorating, the wall paper, garden stuff i bought. He was in that much debt after his wife left him that i ended up paying for most things, shopping, stuff in the house, furniture etc.
Can i claim this back? I have asked for £1500 which has been agreed and now he has vanished off the face of the planet.
What should i do? There has been lots of trouble between us when splitting up so it needs to be handled carefully.
Please please please help, im in debt now after being with him and could do with the money back.

Do you have a physical address for him?
If so then you could always write him a letter, send by recorded delivery, threatening that if he doesn't repay you in full within 14 days then you will pursue the matter through the small claims court...I think the fact that you have an email stating that he agrees to pay you the money would strengthen your case.
Even though you are in debt becasue of this, you may decide the best course of action would simply to put it down to experience.2014 Target;

Do you know where he works? If so you could try sending a letter to him c/o his employer and ask the HR Department to pass it on to him.0

This is my opinion and unfortunately it rocks the boat.
You made the choice to spend that money. You won't get it back....take it as a lesson learned.
If someone tried to go through my employer to get to me...then I'd be taking legal advice as it has nothing to do with the employer.
You picked the wrong guy...I'm sure next time you will be more careful.
Additionally, we're not all a**eholes. Some of us would never dream of doing something like this.0 -
Yes i have an address for him as we used to live together.
I have since sent him a message via ebay and facebook and he has just blocked me!! Clearly doesnt want to talk to me. Always was spineless!
I will send him a letter re the money and enclose copy of the email and the other forms of contact.
How does the small claims court work? Do i need copies of original transactions.
By the way i didnt choose to spend the money, about £1.2k of it was a forced purchase of an abortion!0 -
Blimey this sounds just like my ex - were we seeing the same person
Not really much advise, other than I wouldnt really go through the employers, you dont want him getting into trouble and then not having any money to pay you back with,if you catch my drift
Hope everything gets sorted

You could take him to court but be aware unless he agreed to pay everything back you may not get any/all of your money back as courts find it difficult to decide on stuff when couples live together. Sorry might not be the answer you wanted but my dad is a solicitor and helped my brother after he split up wih his ex after they lived together for 2 years.0

I have an email from him agreeing how much and when he will pay it back, will that help? I specifically emailed him to get something in writing and how much he owed and how much he would pay and how often.0

Though the email will help, I do agree with richt71 that, in the absence of a formal agreement, you will have difficulty in the small claims court.
I was in this position once, only a very small amount of money, and I suggested that I may ring him at work (it was only a small place, no personal calls allowed, and the boss answered the phone). I had the money back within three days.
Have you got a contact for his parents? Assuming they have any morals, they may have a word with him ... xGone ... or have I?0 -
How much rent did you pay him while you lived together? How much would you have spent on rent had you been living separately? You might well have spent more than 1500 on renting your own place during the period in question.0

"We agreed that he would pay money into my savings account and has the savings book."
Did I read this correctly - Your gave your ex YOUR savings account book. - If so get on to your bank or whatever, tell them your ex has it and can they issue a new book and cancel the old one.

Why don't you just take back what you bought - he might be more amenable to this than paying over cash. It won't get you cash to pay off your debts but at least you won't have to buy new, (unless you have already) - or at least you can car boot it.
If you communicate with him again put it on hard copy and sent it via Recorded Delivery - and if he doen't respond at home send it to his work.0
