Moving home when you owe the supplier

Hey all
I am going to be moving soon, and because of a billing balls-up I owe EDF about £200 for my combined account.
When I move can I take my account with me without having to pay back the money?
Also, can I change supplier and pay the money I owe them back on a repayment plan (i.e. £20 a month).
With moving I'd rather keep the money for shiny new things for the house!
Thanks

Initially you will have to use the current(sorry) supplier at your new property.
Normally you can apply to switch to your old supplier straight away, although it can take some weeks.
I suspect for £200 they won't have a problem; but its up to you to negotiate.0 -
Thanks Cardew - I'm just about to come out of my discounted rate with EDF so I expect the price will rocket as it has been fixed for the best part of two years now.
I'm quite good at managing bills and money, but Gas & Electricity are a right bloomin nightmare - I don't understand why they don't automatically adjust your direct debit each month to match your consumption... or let you know you're building up a debt.
If I were cynical I would say it was to tie you in for as long as possible!!0
