Looking for some advice if anyone would be so kind.
I joined David Lloydd over a year ago and paid cash in advance.
Membership expired recently and I never thought anything about it or the notice period since I had paid cash. But I do remember signing a contract.
I have had 2 letters first saying I owe them for the 3 month notice period and second saying that they will pass details on to debt collectors.
If I ignore it until it is passed onto debt collectors will it affect my credit rating?
Since they don't have any details of payment card can I escape this?
Thanks for the help

yesBut I do remember signing a contract.
So you cant escape it. You need to contact them before they send it to DC.0 -
Thanks for the quick reply.
I called the club and i'm waiting for somebody to call me back.0 -
I thought if you pay in cash, there's no membership other than what you've paid for?!?! (Hence when I used to be a member of a gym, I always paid 3 months at a time in cash, as I didn't want a long-term commitment).
But then again, I think there's been quite a few people on here stating that David Lloyd has tricky contracts to get out of. My "contract" said nothing about a notice period. Double check what it says, but if it says 3 months notice, then you'll have to pay them from when your membership expired, along with another 3 months notice (don't forget to send a notice letter immediately!).Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Hi there,
If you signed a contract then you are probably liable. And even though they don't have details to take payment, they know where you live!
I have just posted myself about Orange, who passed on 'my debt' to debt collectors, which at some stage (as yet I don't know exactly when) damaged my credit rating. This was all despite the fact that the matter was still under investigation at the time, and as it turned out in the end the company were in the wrong and settled in full. BUT THE DAMAGE WAS ALREADY DONE!
All I can suggest is that, if you do intend to dispute this, and you don't want debt collectors calling you, you MUST contact the company. When you do, request specific assurances (in writing) that they will not pass details on while the matter is still to be resolved. If I get any replies to my post maybe there will be something legal that you can quote. Good luck

Thanks for the replies, I paid the 2 months I was in arrears, plus pay for the 3 month notice period.
Anyways off on holiday now so trying to forget it!

David Lloyd should not be trusted under any circumstances. Do a google search and see how many issues people have had with their notice period.
I am currently serving notice, they tried the "we haven't recieved your letter, or it's lost" with me but I didn't wear it....having handed it to them in person.
They have no interest in maintaining their reputation or good-will in a hope that one day you will return....all they are interested in is eeking out your membership for as long as possible and will deliberately not contact you or "lose" your letters.
Ensure you get a reciept for your notice letter.....it's in your terms and conditions which they are so willing to remind you of rather than try and help resolve your query.
I was a relatively happy member of DL for 7 years.....I wanted to stop my membership to try another gym for a few months.....they have made my leaving such an unpleasent experience that I will NEVER give them my business again.0
