Hi,
I'm a disabled student and will hopefully be starting Uni in October. I currently recieve DLA and Income Support. I get income support because i'm not well enough to work but also because i have not paid enough National insurance contributions to recieve Incapacity Benefit.
Basically i was wondering whether i'd still be entitled to both of these when i start Uni bearing in mind there has been no change in regards to illness or ability to work.
if anyone can help as to whether or not i would still be entitled i would be grateful!
Thanks

Your uni course should not affect either DLA, IS or IB credits, but you should advise both the DLA office, and IS office in good time. IS may be affected if you get any student grant etc.0

Hi!
I think if you are going to claim student loans or any other allowances then this is counted as income towards your IS even if you dont take it out. You may still qualify for a small amount of IS and possible none at all.

There are extra funds available for disabled students but your student loan and grant will be deducted from your IS. DLA shouldn't be affected.0

I took out a loan for my final year's expenses (£3,000) and this was immediately taken out of my housing benefit. Nobody told me this would happen.
So I ended up paying my rent with my student loan, and now have a £3,000 debt that I really don't need

Even if you choose not to take out the loan, it will be counted as income, as the opportunity to take it was there xGone ... or have I?0 -
My situation, not exactly the same but similar. I get IS and DLA lowest rate, just started an OU course 16hrs p wk.
My local jobcentre says i can stay on benefit. Anyone studying further education for 16hrs is ok.A good cowboy always drinks upstream from the herd.

If you are getting IS for reason of Incapacity you can study for as many hours as you want. You may encounter a problem if you are deemed to be fit for work due to being able to study (this would depend on your condition), and/ or if you are eligible for a student loan this will be counted as income for the purposes of IS.Gone ... or have I?0
