COM PORT PROBLEMS?

HI, I have just recently tried to connect my digital camera to my PC to transfer my photos onto the hard drive. I have installed the software but when I try to transfer the photos I receive the message CONNECTION ERROR.

I have connected the camera to my serial port. Which is where I think the problem is. I think COM 1 and 2 are being used and COM 3 is being used by my dial up modem.

Can anyone tell me how to access the status of these ports so I could free one up for my digital camera.

If you are not connecting your camera to the USB port then what you are saying is correct.

It has todo with Interrupt requests (IRQ's)

Com 1 and Com 3 share the same IRQ and 2 and 4
open your device manager by rightclicking on My Computer on the desktop and check to see what com ports are being used.

Device manager is also in the control panel

What are you using on your serial ports at the moment particularly COM 1 a mouse I guess?
and on COM2?

The physical port for COM2 is much bigger than the COM1 port.

If you can't get it to work, and you going to give the camera away ;D ;D ;D
