in Credit cards
I lived with my then girlfriend until approximately three years ago. When she moved out we had come to an amicable agreement regarding finance. At the time I held a Credit Card Account and she was a second cardholder. Although I transferred my debt balance in 2005, naively, instead of cancelling her card, I tried to get the account ownership changed. This only actually resulted in the statements being sent to her address but the account ownership not changing, therefore instead I asked her repeatedly to transfer her balance to another c/c, which never happened It was not until August 2007 that I received a letter from the Credit Card Company saying that I owed them approximately £13k, because the monthly payments were not being made on the account. Unfortunately although they had my name on the Account, the monthly statements were being addressed and delivered to her new home address as obviously, she was the only active user on the account. l have attempted to persuade her to accept responsibility for the debt without success, but have started making monthly payments myself to avoid having action taken against me by the credit card company and to avoid my credit rating getting worse (this account issue is the only reason it is poor now). What can I do, other than having to spend yet more money in pursuing legal action against her?

Afraid legal action against your ex would probably be futile and a waste of more money, this debt was in your name and although your partner spent all the money, it was and is still your responsibility to pay it back. I would probably go and see your local CAB but think there is very little they could do.0

Very unfortunate situation here.
Unfortunately with Credit Cards the debt is always with the Primary card holder, there is no such thing as a Joint Credit Card.
I don't think theres much you can do legally, I would just advise that you talk to here and try and get her to see sense and help you out with paying it back. Good Luck.0
