Another Aldi Medion SatNav

Is there anyone out there who can help with whether this ia a good buy or not? I
am really tempted as I have been thinking about getting sat nav for ages. I previously had medion sat nav but it was on a pda rather than a stand alone sat nav and I thought it was pretty good - the only thing it didnt do was postcodes - but this model says it has 7 digit postcodes.
The lifetime traffic information sounds really good as well - but is it any good?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks0 -
Where have all the SatNav experts gone?
It would be great to get a few opinions about this Aldi/Medion unit that goes on sale on Thursday.0 -
Why dont you just buy it and try it as aldi are very good at taking things back as long as you have the receipt0

Hi
Have you seen the SATNAV (NAVIGO) at EBUYER.co.uk
£49.99 (There is a thread on this site)
I have bought 5 of the units and have TOMTOM loaded and working.0 -
Unfortunately the ebuyer satnav is back at £59.99 (from noon yesterday). Still good value though!
The advantage the Aldi one has is that it's got:-
FREE LIFETIME Integrated ‘Traffic Message Channel’ receiver
TMC delivers updated traffic information direct to your navigation device so that traffic jams and slow moving traffic can be avoided and thereby delivers you quickly and safely to your destination. TMC receives reliable and regular TrafficMaster data across standard FM radio frequencies which can be understood by the navigation software and then compared against your existing journey. The TMC feature is included in the price and unlike some other sat nav devices is absolutely FREE to use for the lifetime of the product with no monthly subscriptions or extra cost

Thanks to those who posted replies, particularly pknottm.
Presumably the Medion SatNav will have an built in FM receiver designed to receive the TMC? If so, combined with the free life of the product service it appears to be a good deal.0 -
I'd probably go for the Garmin 300T instead which is £123+p&p here
The Garmin almost certainly comes with last years maps(v9) which is good because you can register your satnav with Garmin and get a new free 2008 map update DVD, this will give you a new UK map, and, FULL European mapping, not just major roads.
If you already have some software to put on a windows based unit like the Medion I think your better off buying the £60 Navigo from ebuyer.
I'm waiting to see whats coming out over the next few months, there are quite a few new models coming out, ones with Igo 8 software which looks interesting.

I'm in the same boat as elliewelly and have just received Aldi's email.
Looks like I'm queueing on Thursday morning unless anyone advises against between now and then.0 -
Hi there
I bought one last Thursday and took it back yesterday for an exchange as the TMC was not working. Luckily, they had one left.
The big attraction for me is the TMC as I do lots of motorway driving in my work.
The new one is receiving TMC now but where I live the signal is very weak but it is coming through. I've not road tested the TMC yet so can't comment on the quality of the info and what you can do with it once you've got it.
I was/am disappointed with the instructions provided and think they are poorly written for your typical layman. For example, you expect the TMC to just work but, upon further investigation, it seems you have to manually tune the unit into Classic FM on 101.10 for me in the Midlands. As far as I'm aware, no other channels work. However, you wont find this info in the manual.
Also, the GoPal software provided on the DVDs is not easy to use or understand. If you get one my tip would be to charge it in the mains for 24 hours (you'll need one of those adapters where there's a USB on one side and a 3 pin plug on the other) ans use it straight away without connecting it to your PC until you're familiar with all the functions. I think when you do connect it that's when the trouble starts.
The navigation element of the system is fine and very accurate.0 -
I have the Medion MD 97150 recently purchased from ALDI, and I live in Preston, Lancs. The local radio station "RockFM" puts out TMF so it's excellent for me. I tried classic FM the other day, but although it displayed TMC, I couldn't get any traffic information to appear. Maybe just a bad day, I will try again.0
