Hi,
I have an Epson RX620 printer & 90% of the time I only print b&w text documents, it seems to be using all the inks doing this(6 in total). Is there a setting I can adjust to only use the black cartridge, there is no setting in the software that says black only. It is costing me a fortune on all the colours, also it seems to give me a warning when the cartridges get down to 20% left & won't print anything until I change them
Thanks

3 suggestions:
1. Buy Epson cartridges cheap on the net ( I use compatibles from Choice Stationery-highly recommended)
2. Print some of your documents in dark blue, to use more of the colour tanks
3.I think you can reinstall an Epson cartridge when it tells you it's empty and you can print quite a few more pages, as it thinks it's a new cartridge.0 -
Hi moneysaver. Not the most obvious answer, but how about buying a B&W laser printer? After the initial buy (well they are fairly expensive) running costs are apparently a lot cheaper than ink jets.
Failing that, I'd do what Backbiter suggests - buy cheap compatables from Choice or Aktiv.

You are using a photo printer to print letters, Doh, as above get a laser.
>Is there a setting
Yes, don't turn it on.0 -

I was not looking for some sarcastic remarks, only genuine advice.

I don't really print enough lettters to justify a laser printer. I will hunt down some compatibles.
Thanks

Start -> Settings -> Printers and Faxes
Highlight Epson Printer, then right click and select "Printing Preferences"
Assuming this is the same as my RX600, what "Quality Option" do you have set? My options are Draft, Text, Text & Image, Photo, Best Photo.
My default setting is Text. When I use this option for printing b&w docs, only my black cart goes down. Suspect you have a setting that is using all inks to create black.0 -

Thanks for the info. My settings are set to text & image, I will change it to text only & see how it goes.
Thanks
