Help! Need to organise a date tonight...

I've met a nice young man who lives very near me... so far, we've been to the cinema once and been to eachother's houses for drinks and chat a few times... but we're still in that awkward stage where we're both too shy to make a move!
Well, a couple of weeks ago, he gave me some information about stamp duty that has just got me a refund of £1,800 from my solicitor - nice
So my plan is to surprise him with a proper, romantic date tonight - get the wine flowing, have some fun and finally make a move! And, for one night only, I won't worry about money - it will come from my healthy rebate.
So, where do I go? I've been on Google for an hour, but no-one seems to have their menus online . I want a nice place with a good atmosphere, that serves healthy food (he's a real health freak and I'm a vegan!) and good wine.
We live close to the centre of Newport and I'd ideally like to walk there - we're both happy to walk a couple of miles.
Any suggestions?

Shameless bump - I've only got 5 hours left until I knock on his door, and I've still got no idea where to take him!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

Sorry don't know the Newport area very well.
But could you not just buy some nice food that you both like and cook him dinner, and have nice bottle of wine and maybe DVD, then make your move??!
Cooking someone a meal is more personnal than taking them out in my opinion.
Have a lovely time whatever you decide

Thanks flutterby! I did consider that option, but:
a) We're always at eachother's houses, and I'd like to do something a bit different
b) I haven't got much of a kitchen here ATM, just an old electric cooker and no cupboards
c) I'm very out of practice!
I think we'll probably go here in the end: http://www.picapicacardiff.com/eating.htm - lots of choice for vegans and salad-fans, with cocktail opportunity
Only problem is we'll have to get the 23:23 train home again - who do we petition to get later trains on the weekend? There MUST be a demand!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Mmmm pica pica is lush. I'm veggie and they have so much for me. Food is sooo tasty and it has a nice atmosphere, and has darkish corners (lol I sound wierd!) to sit in. Can be busy on saturdays though so maybe try booking.

I called and got an answerphone message saying "we don't take bookings
". Any ideas of somewhere else to go if it's too busy?
Sorry for all the questions - I only moved here from England in September and I've hardly been out yet!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
www.canteenoncliftonstreet.co.uk
It's walkable from Cardiff city centre.
You do tend to have to book though.Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today.

Oo, nice tip - thanks. I'm a bit put off by the fact there are no pictures of the interior... the pictures of the food look fantastic but they're not on the (v small) menu! :rotfl:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Well, i've only eaten out in Newport once, and I went to a restaurant called Junction 28.. really nice food, very modern welsh food
Otherwise, try searching on http://www.viamichelin.co.uk, from that, i found
The Olive Tree (At http://www.celtic-manor.com)
http://www.thechandleryrestaurant.com
Ravello's http://www.parkwayhotel.co.uk
The Inn http://www.the-elm-tree.co.uk

Oh, thank you for that! I came up with a whole load of review websites, but none actually linked to the resturant's menu!
For example, I quite fancied the Chandlery as an option (I see in on my route to work every day), but now I can see that my vegan options wouldn't be very exciting at all (chips and salad, anyone?)... when you've got diet restrictions you absolutely have to see a menu beforehand!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
