Hi,

My friends wing mirror has been knocked and is now wobbly. The glass has been smashed but she is going to get a new one from Halfords. However, she needs to sort the wobble out. Any one have ideas of how to fix this without it costing too much.

Thanks

Is this the old beetle or the new beetle?

If the new one which year, there are 3 different ones.

An entire mirror for a VW Beetle 2002-2005 would be cost at most £100 for the mirror and the mirror would need painting.

It's a new car, W reg (which I think is 2000). The case is still intact it just wobbles.

    Thanks

Folding ones approx £100 non-folding approx £80 for entire mirror assembly, I think that excludes glass which is about £20 each.

It looks to me like the hinge itself is part of the "mirror cap" which costs about £20 and would need painting. This would mean taking the motor and glass out of the old one. Looks like it's held on by 3 screws from the inside of the car, presumably under a piece of trim, then somewhere on the outside is 2 screws which I presume hold the cover and the hinge. As it's electrically controlled there's a wire to disconnect.

Might be easier and cheaper to scour scrap yards for a complete mirror with glass in the same colour as the car so no glass is needed and no painting is needed, and it should be a straight swap with no messing. The mirrors should be the same for cars dated between 1999 and 2001. 2002 onwards have different mirrors.
