im useless with cars so was hoping for some tips from someone with a bitmore knowledge please.
Myself and wife have baby on the way and thus am looking to buy more safe and reliable car than the one we have (1994 astra 1.4) upgrading to a nissan almera or citroen xsara something like that. Just had a few bits to ask advice on:
1) will we be able to get anything from garage selling car in part ex for our old car?
2) is it commonplace to haggle down prices from garages for cars at around £2000 mark.
3) does it make a big difference on insurance if going over engine size 1.4?
thanks

i doubt you will get much on your old car...depends how overpriced the one you are buying is really
cant you sell it privatley for a couple of hundred?
probably wont haggle more than a couple of hundred off a £2000 car, depends what it is really, if its a really nice car that they know will sell easy they wont budge much, if its something theyre stuck with maybe they will haggle a bit
take cash with you and be prepared to do the deal there n then for the right price, you might be best to try and get road tax and a tank of petrol out of them etc
insurance can vary wildly on make/models etc...best get a quote on the exact model you want0 -
1) No. TBH, they don't really want it as it's more hassle than it's worth.
2) Anything can be haggled.
3) No unless you're young.0 -
when i went to a showroom a few months back when getting a newer car and trading mine in the salesmen told me there wasnt that much discount these days if paying cash, only if you were taking it on finance they had room for haggling
whether or not its the same in all car dealerships0 -
Yes finance gets the dealer's all excited now as it's more money for them.0
