Non-resident UK Savings Accounts

My mother is a Spanish citizen living in Spain. As she lived in the UK for many years she is entitled to a UK pension which gets thrown into a Lloyds TSB Instant Savings account (don't know the exact name).
The issue is that she only gets 0.8% interest on this account so I packed her off to the local LTSB this afternoon but she was told that as she is non-resident none of the higher interest savings products are available to her.
So, the questions are a) were the staff in LTSB spinning her a line? and b) what accounts could she open that give her decent interest? The only proviso is that they be non-internet accounts.
Thanks in advance

If she's non resident in the UK then she probably wouldn't be able to open a high street account, but most banks have an offshore division to cater for expat Brits wanting to keep some accounts in Sterling. Can't recommend anyone but they will all have a website.0

The offshore accounts are OK. However, they usually have high minimum balance requirements. In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0

She could get the cash paid direct to her spanish bank account.
She could open a Nationwide flex account, using your address and draw the cash in spain."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

As Abbey is a spanish bank, perhaps that might be the way to go ...Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.
