Best way to Alton Towers from Edinburgh

Hi, I was wondering how to get to Alton Towers from Edinburgh? Cheapest would of course be best as long as it isn't too complicated. Although for a good price I wouldn't mind. I have tried googling this without much luck. If anyone could give me an idea of possible ways/prices/distance, that would be great! I don't have a car so it would have to be by public transport.
Like many others, I missed out on the form in the Sun but have always wanted to go to Alton Towers so think I might just go anyway, but if anyone knows of any other discounts, however small, that would be great!
Thank you all so much!

tetly tea are doing 2for1 vouchers for alton towers. Well worth buying a pack of 80 tea bags.

Now I am sure there will be date that the vouchers cant be used so its worth checking before you buy.

As for getting there if you are going to go by public transport then it might be worth having a look on www.towerstimes.co.uk

The people on the forum there will be able to help with local public transport around Alton.
