The cheapest I have managed to find is £648.80 with Japanese Airlines, problem is JAL have a long wait in Osaka for the connecting flight to BNE.

Austravel tel.0870 1662120 are offering flights to Sydney, buy one flight for £649 get a second one for £325. Taxes about £40 each. These are direct flights with just an hours stopover for refueling. They are also offering Virgin Blue internal flights on a 2 for 1 basis, may be worth trying. Sorry I haven't got any further info 'cause hubby wont do a direct flight.
