Cards showing on credit report

in Credit cards
I have just got my free credit report.
I recently got a Tesco 0% 13 months CC (as it was easy to apply for without having all my other details to hand) and transferred all but a few pounds from my Halifax card that I have had for a long time (interest 23.9%).
Now I was just going to close this account as I have another card with Nationwide that I can use (near max, but can use payments not going to Halifax to pay it off more quickly or get another BT card hence my credit check).
My credit report from Experian does not list the Halifax card, so I understand that this would not count against me if I apply for another low rate card that I could transfer the NW balance to.
I also discovered that I have an M&S chargecard (250 limit taken out in 1999) that I have only used once, and a GE Capital Bank (storecard? can't remember) from 2001 settled in 2003 that lists a couple of late payments (the only ones in my full history).
Also have a flexible loan with Co-op that I owe 700 on, with a credit limit of 7000.
OK, any advise please as how to get the maximum use of these? I think I definitely need to cancel the GE card (haven't even got a card), cancel M&S card (or apply for M&S credit card in its place with a BT availability?, would this involve another search?) ?Cancel Halifax, or keep as it is unknown for available credit?
Trying to save enough on interest to pay for son's car insurance without affecting my credit rating. Will also need finance for a replacement car, so want to reduce risk of refusal.
BTW, there was a credit search from the PC world/Curry's group last year, but I have only ever paid them with credit or debit cards, any ideas?
Thanks
Sorry, can't do brief!
