They tell me that the reason I was initially given the £5435 allowance (even though they knew I was eligable for the £9030 allowance) was that I might just be earning over £21800. It was up to me to ring them and let them know I was not going to earn that amount.

In which case the P2 (Coding Notice) you received in January .... should have said that? As it's now personalised - it should have said that £5435 was given because the assumption was being made that the age related restriction applied?

But your earnings would need to be at £28990, or more, to retreat the allowance all the way back to £5435? You lose £1 of the allowance for every £2 you exceed £21800

The exact wording on my PAYE notice of coding "Our records tell us you are entitled to £5435 for this tax year, the standard personal allowance for people under 65"
Just a note on my NI contributions...they indicate that they intend to collect by direct debit 2 payments (class 2) AFTER my 65th birthday by direct debit.

I managed to get through on the phone today. It was up to me to ring them and let them know I was not going to earn that amount. Just a load of rubbish as I have not earned anything like that ever! Anyway sorted now !!

Confirmed in the post that I will now get the the £9030 allowance.
