This may sound silly but one of my best days when I was a child was spent having a paintimg competition in the garden. You only need a little prize or you could just put the picture up somewhere as a prize in itself.

Yesterday went well, I only had to spend £3.33. Took ds to the cycle workshop and then took dd2 on to the painting session at the museum, they had a whale of a time.

Today not so good. I woke up with terrible pains in my stomach so had to lie in bed until they eased off a little, I'd planned to make sandwiches but DD1 had forgotten to get any bread out of the freezer when she made her sandwiches this morning so I had to buy lunch out which cost me £8. Took them down to the puppet show at the docks, then on to the cycle workshop again where DS got his certificate for attending for the week and his gold medal :D

My feet are killing me and I am so tired. I have walked for miles this week, we even got halfway home today and had to head back again as ds had put his certificate in the bin by mistake!! At least tomorrow will be spent at home packing for him to go to Scout camp on Saturday. I also managed to pick him up some books to take with him and a soft toy for DD1 from a charity shop in town and because dd2 was being a cutie she only charged me 60p for the lot. It's looking better, the shopping bill will be less next week with DS being away and we got £60 put into our bank account that we weren't expecting. Next week DH will be at home though and it's harder to keep him amused without spending money :(

moggins -sometimes I make sandwiches for hubby using frozen bread, has defrosted by lunchtime or you could do some sandwiches then freeze (depends on your filling) again they'll be defrosted by lunchtime, saves you getting caught again.

I used to make sandwiches for DH using frozen bread - made them at 7.30 a.m. and could not understand why he always complained bitterly that they were "half frozen" when he went to eat them!

Eventually asked "What time do you eat them then? !2 noon or 1p.m."

The sheepish reply was 9a.m. as he got peckish!!!!!!!!!!

Some great ideas on here already. Just wondered if you could swap any childrens clothes with friends who have kids close in age to yours. Also, you mentioned giong to charity shop, if it's a decent one, ask the manager if they have autumn/winter stock put away for later in year. If you tell her/him what you need, they might just have it, but not on shop floor yet. Good luck with the rest of your month.

    Hi Moggins
How about do dyeing with the kids- I've just been on a course and you can use stuff you already have in the kitchen if you don't want to spend out- suggestions are onion skins, tumeric, tea, coffee, nettles or that old standby of tie dyeing. If they use old t shirts and they don't work out you can always make them into rags!! Also my son has helped me make sweets, ginger biscuits and stick blobs [one of the Be-Ro recipes] so far this holiday. With the blackberries ripening you could also get them to do some free foraging[ same goes for elderberries, haw berries and sloes all of which can be made into other stuff]
