trying to send a cheque to france

Hi there
I was wondering if there exists any such thing as a eurocheque.
I need to pay some taxes in France. The online payment system doesn't seem to work - so I cannot
use a credit/debit card. They only accept cheques. Natwest have suggested doing a transfer but they only accept cheques!
The only snag is that I don't have a French account.
Is it possible in this 21st century, that I can write a cheque from my Natwest account that they can cash
or is there a company out there who I can pay a bit of commission to, where they will issue a euro cheque so
that I can send that to France?
Something like a travellers cheque but one where I can change the payee details?
Thanks
Phil

Hi, I believe there is such a thing as a euro cheque book but it may cost a small fee - ask your bank? also it may take a while to get to you.
However your UK cheques may work - check with who you are paying (french tax office?) as I wrote a Uk cheque to a french gite owner for last years holiday deposit and they said that their bank would take them.
Failing that, if you have all the payment details (including SWIFT & IBAN codes - get them from who you are paying) of the recieving account - you should be able to set up a direct bank transfer (small fee involved again) by phoning your bank?
good luckI often think about The Samuel Vimes 'Boots' Theory Of Socio-Economic Injustice. :cool:0 -
I have done a bank transfer throught my bank before.
I think it was about a £10 fee but it was the cheapest way of doing it safely.
In my case it was a desposit for a foreign hotel that did not accept cards.0
