Thomas Cook

Hey everyone im new iv been browsing for a wile this is my 1st post!

Iv a bit of a problemo! Few months back the OH and her friend booked a holiday through thomas cook, i wasnt overly happy as it was done sort of behind my back and it was rather expensive for us, but i got over it and decided to go. The booking was for 4 of us, and the lead name on the booking was the OH friend. Few weeks down the line the friend and her fella finished and he was told he wasnt welcome on holiday so naturally enough he wanted his money back. He went to thomas cook and after causing an awful riot got his money back. Then our prices went up more than we can afford so thought it wud be an idea to alter the holiday or go somewhere cheaper but the 'friend' wouldnt budge on anything and due to her now being single her single supplement is being divided 3 ways therefore putting our price up! So me and the other half decided we wanted out told her yeasterday she went mental called us sly and deceitful she didnt beleive our reason for cancelling and now she wont speak to us! So i went to thomas cook this morning to get my money back they said that the 'friend' has to go in and sign somethin to have it cancelled, was told someone would call me they didnt i called them they said the same again but yet her fella could get his money back i told them this they tried to fob me off with that should not have happened without a signature etc. etc. but the cahnces of us getting this feiend to come in and sign is bleek at min as she wont even speak to us! so wat are my rights and wat can i do next?

any advice is much appreciated!

Try being polite, to the travel agent and also to your friend (or ex-friend). Despite your heading, Thomas Cook have behaved entirely properly. If you ask them nicely, they may be able to credit the money you have paid towards a different holiday that matches your present circumstances. However, I don't think you have any rights in this situation, so name-calling and getting angry will get you nowhere.

Thanks voyager, its just that well the other fella got his money back with a bit of persistance so i cant understand why i cant. As for the friend or ex-friend iv tried being polite but shes having none of it and will make getting the money back as difficult as she possibly can!

Calling them Thomas Crook is unfair. They are behaving totally properly and in accordance with the booking conditions that your former friend agreed on behalf of all of you when making the booking

For the first time in my life I feel sorry for Thomas Cook.

Or at least the staff that you dealt with.

The implication is that you think just going mental seems to fix any problems which are entirely self-caused.

Politeness, friendliness, and speaking to them at a good time (i.e. as soon as they open) would probably be your best best. If you start getting belligerent it will just get their backs up, and they will start quoting terms and conditions at you.

When you book a holiday the person who signs the booking form is the only one authorised to make changes. Cooks are acting entirely properly in telling you that your former friend has to make the change if they were the ones who signed it. Simple contract law-and yes I feel sorry for the staff at Cooks too-it's always a nightmare when "friends" fall out- the agency is left stuck in the middle.

I think you should change the title on your thread as the travel company are not doing anything wrong.

  • no changes could be made to the booking unless the lead passenger gives his/her permission and signed something so you probably don't know the full story re him getting his money back.
