Sky Tv - Grrrrr!!!

Options
Hi All,

New member here - and a huge fan of Martin and this site.

I read the posts regarding threatening to cancel with Sky to possibly gain discounted subscription - this was a non-starter as the lady I spoke to explained too many people had done this and they were trying to cut down on offering discounts.

She then tried to persuade me to sign up to Sky Plus and Broadband... I wanted to save money, not spend more!!

She then suggested cutting down on my package, and I agreed to her taking off the Kids mix and the Lifestyle (I don't really watch these and it saved a few quid).

I went to watch a music channel this morning, to no avail. After checking the rest I found out she had taken off all my packages!!!

I phoned to complain and get them reinstated and was told I would still have to pay the full amount this month (£38) as the bill had already been issued!

I am so angry!!!!

Any advice apart from writing a stinky letter!!

Ring them up and tell them you're going to cancel because of this foul up, it's the last straw etc. Then if they don't offer you something, go through with it and buy a Freeview box with the money you've saved.
  • But I don't really want to cancel... I do watch the majority of the channels and there are some that Freeview doesn't offer. I'm just wound up that Sky have no idea how to treat loyal customers!

I suppose that's the problem then... it's a game of brinksmanship and if you aren't prepared to get to the stage where they say "OK, we'll close your account then - have a nice day" then there's probably not a lot you can do.

If you threaten to cancel and dont get offered anything you could always go ahead with it. I know some who have done this and its not very long before Sky phone you begging to come back.
One person either cancelled or was cut off owing money. Sky phoned them up asking them to return and write off the arrears into the bargain.
Its luck of the draw really, often it depends on the time of the month or week. Apparantly Sky allow for a certain amount of offers each month although as stated, they may be cutting back on them.
At the end of the day, it depends how much they want your custom, or you want their product.
  • Hi, just to let you know that if you do cancel - if you have been with them over a year - the Sky Box and dish should belong to you and should stay in place (if it still works like this), then you will be able to use a a freeview box - we cancelled ours a couple of years ago in favour of NTL and we still have the dish & box and can use it to watch all the freeview channels!

  • Thanks Daisy - I don't have a TV ariel though - only a Sky dish so not sure if I can still get freeview?

You should be able to get all the Freeview channels through the SKY satellite receiver, even when all the subscription channels have been turned off.

Pleas folks don't confuse Freeview which comes through an Aerial with Freesat from Sky which you can get via your satellite dish.
The channels are not the same, for example you cannot get E4 and More4 on the Sky platform without subscription whereas you can on Freeview.
If you cease to subscribe to Sky then your existing can reverts to a freesat one.
PS The BBC and ITV are launching their owm Freesat service shortly which will include HD.
You will be able to use your existing Dish but will probably need a new STB.
