Can we avoid a complete rewire?

i live in merseyside and had a PIR check that cost £80. The guy took around an hour and unscrewed just about everything!! He tests the circuits too and offers advice - i also got quite a lengthy form showing everything that had been tested and results of each test. I was told every 3 mths to switch the 'off' button on the fuseboard to check everything 'trips' out as if it doesn't that signals a potential problem.
I then went on to have my house rewired and it wasn't too messy tbh. Mines a 1950s one and was 'dead straightforward' to quote the electrician.
The whole rewire was £1500. Not all of my walls needed 'chasing' because there were metal thread poles down to lightswitches. Took a week. The electrician also did the plastering but tbh i wasn't too impressed with this - it was ok but i believe get the proper tradesman who does it day in day out.0 -
From memory the new fuseboard with RCD was about £500 plus a shedload of paperwork.0
