The DVLA clamped my car on Tuesday for not having a current tax disk- £80.00 to get the yellow slug removed and £120 surety - refundable if a valid tax disk is shown at their car pound.- annoying but fair enough . I forgot but so did they to send a reminder (apparently no defence)
BUT I then got another fine for the back tax (again fair) and another £80 for having an untaxed vehicle on the road.
Doesn't this mean they have fined me twice for the same offence?
Anyone else had the same thing happen ? can they do this?

They can do what they like if you can't declare your car SORN or buy a tax disc. It's not rocket science, insurance document, MOT, post office + money = tax disc and no fines. Your disc clearly states the date on it. Might be handy to write it in a diary.
I remember when my tax disc is needed as it's needed just after my MOT is due.0 -

£80 to have the clamp removed.
£Fine for back tax.
£80 fine for having an untaxed vehicle on the road.
3 different fines.
I'm amazed that they release the car without the tax being paid, it should be a case of the car remaining clamped until the car is taxed0 -
It does seem pretty harsh that someone who bothers to register their vehicle should suffer 3 fines for the same mistake.

Against the private parking enforcement clampers maybe but surely with it being the DVLA you'd end up in court for criminal damage - it has been known to happen.0
