  • Re the above...i have jus run through some figures with my wife not working (she doesnt at mo) and deferring her state pension....I find the figures given as a quote amazing...even aftr allowing for my income...they take into consideration rent and mortgage..staggered...over £200 a week...shes btr off deferring pension and not bothering to take paid work!

If your partner worked less than 16 hours and earned £100 per week as a couple you would be entitled to £91.70 pension credit(first £10 disregarded) and be entitled to full housing benefit and council tax benefit.

There are a few things to take into consideration as your wife will be 60 next year she should be entitled to her retirement pension and if she works 16 hours or more will be entitled to working tax credit.

If entitled to her pension(state),possibly, if she is going to continue to work she could defer her state pension and receive a higher graded state pension later but someone would have to confirm that as it may be classed as notional income meaning you would be classed as claiming it from when you were entitled..

As for tax credits your wife would qualify for the over 50 element and is only required to work at least 16 hours

I have read with amazement the amounts that you can get in pension credits. Does anyone know if they will ever become available in Spain. We left England when I was 60, (I am now 65) and although I get a full retirement pension,my husband gets nothing, as he is only 61. This extra amount would make big difference to our lives!!
  • Does anyone know if pension credit is taxable?..
  • Tried doing a estimate on the website..for my wife who is 60 soon...i am stil working and under 60..put in my income ...but it doesnt seem to allow for it....and also came out with a pension credit of 231 peer week...i thought the max was 180 odd anyway...so how can tht b right!

As far as i'm aware you will receive help with mortgage through pension credit and rent through housing benefit but don't quote me on it.
Why not try a new post for yourself and put in all info you have at hand.
Things like wife is now 60.
    Your income.
Your mortgage payments(what kind of mortgage and how much do you owe and how long have you had the mortgage)
    Council tax
Explain rent share and how much.

I know this is a lot of info to give but there are different criteria for mortgage payments.
By putting this info on a new thread someone will work your entitlement to PC.
    Good luck Average
