My brother lives / teaches in Bangkok - he loves it. We're going out in a couple of weeks.

have been researching this myself - looking to go this year hoorah!
just the far south that is a bit dicey - has been some violence there on and off in the past year or so I think. My new Thailand book has a section on it (published Aug 2007) although can't for the life of me find that bit right now.
loads of experts on here will be able to answer you better!0 -
like anywhere use common sense, dress sensibly and dont flash your money around. keep away from dark quiet streets at night and keep an eye on taxi drivers. other than that i think its a reasonably safe country. i felt safe and more confident walking around parts of Bangkok late at night on my own than i do in some cities in the UK.
Its an excellent country! enjoy!0 -
Just back after 3 weeks. One of the safest places I've been to. Just use a bit of common sense as you would anywhere.0
