item costs £500, but only £150 buyer protection - is it safe to bid?

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this situation before and could give me some advice.

I'm thinking of buying an item on Ebay that will probably go for around £500, but which only qualifies for £150 buyer protection with Paypal (I think because the seller has insufficient feedback). Am I right in thinking that as long as I pay with a credit card I can claim the money back from the cc company if the item doesn't turn up? Does anyone know what happens if the item turns up but there's something wrong with it (ie less of a clear-cut situation)?

Would be v grateful for any advice!
