A minor cannot legally endorse a cheque (or anything else) so he/she may have problems with paying in a foreign currency cheque.
The fees for small amount may also be prohibitive.

I wonder what a 16 year old has been doing to get foreign currency cheques?

I'm thinking of getting in to internet marketing. Most big sites pay by cheque and in dollars.

The last time I asked HSBC about paying in a non sterling cheque they wanted to charge me £12..so be prepared!

Some on-line survey sites send you cheques in Dollards - I've had this before.
  • You might want to try auctionchex.com, as the fee will be less for a small cheque than what HSBC want.

Will OP be required to sign terms and conditions at auctionchex.com.
If so as he is a minor he cannot legally enter into a contract and I go back to my first posting about this?

You mean a CHEQUE and not a CHECK...........

Well it is in $ so I suppose the american mispelling is acceptable!

Google pay in $ by check, sorry cheque but pay in £ by bank transfer. (at least they used to and i have been paid by BT for so long no idea if they still do).
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

£12 for depositing the cheque? or £12 for answering your query?

Neither. The £12 (variable) is for converting to the same currency as your account.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Hmm, that's a bit steep. Might call them up.

Not really - it's more or less the going rate. Until we move to a single currency (and the US is unlikely to join!) it's the price you have to pay for accepting funds in other than £Sterling.
